Stockport primary schools art competition marks show apartment opening

Children from two Stockport primary schools have taken part in an art competition to mark the opening of the new showhome at the Covent Garden housing development close to Stockport town centre.

Organised by North-West based affordable housing provider, Your Housing Group, 90 students aged 9 to 11 from St Thomas’ CE Primary School and St Joseph’s Stockport Catholic Primary School took part in an art competition to draw or paint the famous ‘Lowry Steps’ on Crowther Street, close to the development, which are depicted in one of the Salford artist’s priceless paintings. Lowry worked as a rent collector in Stockport, so knew the town well, and one of the streets he visited regularly on his rounds was Crowther Street.

The two winners, Olivia Smith aged 11 from St Thomas’ and Kym Tandaan aged 10 from St Joseph’s both won art materials and their framed pictures were hung in the new show apartment that opened on Monday 17 June 2019.
The £9.4m development, which is due to be completed this summer, consists of 74 properties which include two and three bedroom houses and one and two bedroom apartments with a mix of tenures including five for shared ownership, 18 for outright sale and 51 homes for private rent.
Lorraine Donnelly, Director of Development for Your Housing Group said: “It’s fantastic to see this development nearing completion and be able to open the doors to our showhome for the first time. Potential residents will be able to see first-hand the light, bright rooms, spacious layout and high quality fixtures and fittings we offer in all our properties. This scheme is a stone’s throw from Stockport town centre and close to the mainline train station and motorway network making access to Manchester, London and other towns and cities quick and easy.
“We were really impressed with the quality of the entries for our schools art competition and it was extremely hard to pick the just two winners. Olivia and Kim’s pictures stood out for the attention to detail, and both show real talent. We are proud to be able to hang their work in our new show apartment. They add the finishing touch to beautifully designed interior.”
Constructed around London Square close to Stockport town centre, the development is strategically located at the heart of a £1bn masterplan to regenerate Stockport town centre. The development has been supported by a Government grant.
Your Housing Group is a member of the Stockport Housing Partnership. The housing provider was selected by Stockport Council to deliver this significant town centre regeneration scheme, after the local authority, who had initiated the project, assembled the site which had multiple land owners.

Cllr Sheila Bailey, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Stockport said: “This new scheme is a fantastic addition to the town centre and will deliver much-needed housing on the site of former council flats.

“Part of our ambitious regeneration plans are to attract families to live in the town centre, which in turn will support businesses and boost the local economy.

“These are high-quality homes that will impact positively on the surrounding area and meet the varied needs of our residents.”

The scheme was designed by architect IBI Group and built by contactor Bardsley Construction.

Heygreen Park, Wavertree- Edington Street Clean Up

During a sunny afternoon on Edington Street, Wavertree, situated on the border of Heygreen Park, our new build development site, the YHG Community Regeneration Team & Project Lead Gillian Keevey Teamed up with local customers and partners including Bell Group Painters & Decorators, Liverpool City Council Officers & Ward Councillor Clare McIntyre to focus on giving the immediate area a once over.

The aim of the day was to make the area near the front of site look cleaner and brighter as over time it had been neglected with ASB issues such as fly tipping, littering and burnt out items in the corner of the location.

The team quickly began to make an impact as a whirlwind of brushes, shovels, PPE and bin liners kicked into action and after an hour or two the skip, provided by LCC was soon bursting at the seams awaiting removal.

In the background, the Bell Group Painters lead by Karen Fletcher were making their way across the adjoining YHG properties which was also beginning to take shape as a nicely freshened up row of houses, thanks to our Social Value contract obtained when the agreement was set up through procurement.

Whilst the team cracked through the tasks a couple of local customers came out to see what all the fuss was about and after chatting through improvements we hoped to make in that immediate area we had recruited two more Community Angels, who with The Regeneration Teams guidance will have a sustainable model on keeping this space free of future neglect.

Improvement ideas including a new bin store area that was accessible to our Customers to simply keep their bins, rather than having to pull bins through houses each bin day was discussed, along with working with local customer Paul and his Grandson in developing a much-loved Mini Beast & Bee Garden.

Further ideas were also discussed in what was a great forum for YHG Staff & Customers to liaise with local City Council and Council representatives for future improvements.

Heygreen Park offers an exciting mix of 1-bedroom apartments and 2 and 3-bedroom houses, available for private rent. Visit nuvuliving.co.uk to find out more.

Work starts at Amberley Square in Wythenshawe, Manchester

Work has started today (25 March 2019) on a £7.3 million housing development in Wythenshawe, south Manchester.

Warrington-based housing provider, Your Housing Group, is building 52 two and three bedroom houses on Amberley Drive. 16 properties will be available for shared ownership and the remaining 36 will be available for rent via Nuvu Living, Your Housing Group’s private rental brand.

The Amberley Square development benefits from good local amenities including schools, medical facilities and shops. Wythenshawe is well served by public transport links, close to the motorway network, Manchester Airport, The University Hospital of South Manchester and a short drive to Manchester city centre.

Designed by Manchester architects MHA and being built and delivered by energy and regeneration specialist ENGIE, the scheme offers a range of detached and semi-detached properties all of which have off road parking for two cars and front and rear gardens.

Lorraine Donnelly, Director of Development for Your Housing Group said: “Amberley Square is ideal for first time buyers, young professionals and growing families.

“With a choice of detached and semi-detached homes, the new development will provide quality homes for those looking to settle down. Its proximity to Manchester Airport, Wythenshawe hospital and a number of high schools and academies makes it an ideal location.

“It’s fantastic to be able to bring more much-needed homes to this part of the city.”

Your Housing Group became one of Homes England’s Strategic Partners earlier this year. This development is part-funded with a £560,000 grant from Homes England’s current Shared Ownership and Affordable Homes Programme.

Nick Cumberland, Senior Specialist, Home Ownership and Supply for Homes England said: “It’s great to see one of our partners using their resources and expertise to develop much needed new homes in a thriving community. This development will provide people with the opportunity to buy or rent high quality new homes and increase the overall housing offer in the area.”

Steven Gregory, Head of New Build at ENGIE, said: “Your Housing Group is one of our long-standing partners in regeneration across the country and together we have completed a number of flagship projects in housing, new build and retirement living.

“We’re delighted to kick start this project. These new rental properties will be a fantastic addition to Wythenshawe, offering a prime location for tenants while helping to regenerate the local community.

“We also want to impact and support the communities we work in and the people we work with, so as part of this scheme, we’re delighted to be offering a number of apprenticeships at the site, providing local people with the opportunity to take their first steps into the construction world.”

Anyone interested in a property should call 01925 393637 for more information, or visit https://nuvuliving.co.uk/locations/amberley-drive/

The first homes will be built by the end of November this year and the whole scheme is scheduled to be completed by the end of May 2020.

Wavertree Ground Breaking Ceremony

A new £6.1m housing development in Wavertree, designed for customers looking to rent in Liverpool, launched with a sod cutting ceremony to mark the official start of construction work on site.

Nuvu Wavertree is a 48-home development which is being developed by Your Housing Group, one of the largest housing providers in the UK, with more than 28,000 homes across North West, Yorkshire and the Midlands, in partnership with Liverpool City Council and MCI Developments.

Steve Fensom, chief operating officer at Your Housing Group, Councillor Lynnie Hinnigan, deputy mayor of Liverpool and cabinet member for housing at Liverpool City Council and Alex Wood, managing director at MCI Developments attended an official sod cutting ceremony to launch building work.

The development, near Edington Street, by Wavertree Technology Park, will offer one-bedroom apartments and a mixture of two- and three-bedroom homes, which will be available to rent through Nuvu Living, Your Housing Group’s rental brand.

The site previously housed railway sidings. Development began with remedial work taking place to improve the land in April and construction work has now started and due to be completed in August 2019.

Lorraine Donnelly, development director at Your Housing Group, said:

“This contemporary rental development sees us making another firm commitment to investing in Liverpool. We want to continue to develop clean, modern homes suitable for local people, from single customers, to families.

“We believe that renting a home is a lifestyle choice and offering high quality homes in great locations is paramount. Councillor Lynnie Hinnigan, deputy mayor of Liverpool and cabinet member for housing at Liverpool City Council, said:

Nuvu Living to introduce three-year tenancy agreements

Nuvu Living is believed to be one of Britain’s first private landlords to introduce three-year tenancies. They will be available from next week, (w/c 9 July) for customers looking to move into new PRS developments at Nuvu Birchwood and Nuvu Church Street, both in Warrington. The landlord will also offer the extended tenancies at its new developments Nuvu Amberley Drive in Wythenshawe, Manchester and Nuvu Covent Garden in Stockport.

Paul Warburton, Director of Property Operations at Nuvu Living, part of Your Housing Group, said: “Nuvu Living is proud to introduce three-year tenancies.  Our intention with this offer is to provide our customers a greater level of security and stability to allow them to plan over a longer horizon.  Three-year tenancies are a step in our aspiration to create life-long tenancies for our customers.

“We believe that renting should not be viewed as solely for those people who cannot afford to buy their own home.  Landlords have a responsibility to provide rental solutions that are a positive life style choice and a meaningful alternative to home ownership, from first home to retirement options.  As such, a landlord’s service provided to tenants should have safety, security and longevity at its core, to enable renters to make longer term decisions about their home type, location and community.

“This initial step follows active consultation with prospective customers at our Nuvu Birchwood development, where overwhelmingly customers supported the longer-term view.”

The number of people living in the private rented sector has doubled over the past decade.  A fifth of all British households – around five million people – rent their homes privately. Eighty percent – approximately four million people – are on contracts of six to twelve months – and a quarter of these renters are believed to be families with children.

Paul added: “Offering longer tenancies enables Nuvu Living to develop a better understanding of our customers’ needs and stronger landlord-tenant relationships.  Ultimately, it means we can better support communities to thrive.  We are strongly supportive of the Government’s initiative to provide longer term tenancies and will respond to the Government’s consultation process accordingly.”

Can you channel the spirit of Stockport and name our new apartment blocks?

Can you suggest names for our four apartment blocks within our new, £9.4m Nuvu Covent Garden development in Stockport?

The winner will get to officially unveil the name plaques AND walk away with £100 of gift vouchers!

Nuvu Covent Garden will feature 74 homes, offering a mixture of one, two and three bed apartments and houses. They’ll be available to rent, buy or purchase through shared ownership.

Now we invite you to send in four original name suggestions, which all share a common theme. We want you to take inspiration from the local area and its history for example, the cultural link with painter L.S Lowry, Stockport’s musical landscape and the tradition of manufacturing in the area.

The winner, who the judging panel believe best captures the spirit of the new site, will win two gift cards worth £100 for the Light Cinema, at Redrock, in Stockport and be given the opportunity to unveil permanent plaques outside each block.

The competition will be judged by Lorraine Donnelly, Nuvu Living’s development director at Your Housing Group.

Lorraine said: “This is a great opportunity for a local resident to permanently name a stunning new development in Stockport town centre. Nuvu Covent Garden was depicted in L.S Lowry’s 1930 painting ‘A street in Stockport – Crowther Street’ and the town has a varied and interesting industrial past.

“Stockport is also a musical town, Strawberry Studios, the legendary recording studio is located here and Blossoms, who launched their second album from an ice cream van at Foodie Friday, are proud Stopfordians. It’s time to get creative and think about what names capture the heart of Stockport.”

Email your four connected names to [email protected] with ‘Covent Garden Naming Comp’ in the subject line. Or Tweet @nuvuliving using the hashtag #RenameCG

Sales success at new housing development

Almost half of new homes at a £6.5 million development in Birchwood have been reserved before construction has been completed.

So far 28 homes, included 23 rented homes and five shared ownership houses on the 66-home Nuvu Birchwood development, have been reserved with the scheme set to complete in mid-2019.

The development in Admirals Road provides a range of two and three-bedroom homes, constructed by MCI Developments Limited in partnership with Warrington Borough Council and Homes England.

Nuvu Living’s Development Director Lorraine Donnelly said:

“We’re delighted by how popular Birchwood is. There’s clearly a huge demand for modern, high quality rented and shared ownership homes in the area. Residents have told us they like the bright, airy rooms, gardens, fully fitted kitchens and high-quality finishes we offer.

“Nuvu Living is designed to fit around busy lifestyles, offering ready-to-move-into contemporary homes for people who prefer the flexibility of renting or are not yet ready to buy their own home.”

Morgan Ashurst, 22, the first resident to move into Nuvu Birchwood, said:

“My partner Kim and I had been looking for a new home for a while. We both moved from Leicester to the North West for new jobs and wanted a home with a private garden. We can’t wait to get settled into our new three-bedroom home. For the first time we’ll have enough room for guests to stay and be able to have a home office.

“The location is perfect for my new job near Bury. We wanted something modern, with stylish bathrooms and contemporary fittings. Most rentals are dated and don’t have such high-spec details, so we were blown away when we looked around Birchwood.”

The development is close to the M6 motorway and minutes from Birchwood train station, which offers a 20-minute train commute to both Liverpool and Manchester. Local amenities such as the Birchwood shopping centre, Asda, Latchford Medical Centre and Birchwood Forest Park.

There are three types of homes and they include fully fitted kitchen units, an integrated energy efficient cooker and hob, fridge freezer, fan assisted oven, washer dryer, walk-in showers and baths, ceramic tiles, ceramic wash basin, blinds and carpet throughout, double glazing, turfed front and rear gardens and parking.

The development on Admirals Road is the first in a series of new rental developments from Nuvu Living. Nuvu Living is a Your Housing Group company, which has a portfolio of 28,000 homes across the North of England and has ambitions to build thousands more homes for people at all stages of life.

The new Birchwood development will comprise of two and three-bedroom homes for private rent and a number for shared ownership homes available to purchase as part of Your Housing Group’s ongoing commitment to tackling the housing crisis in the North West.

With the train station a short walk away, commuters will also be able to benefit from a 20-minute train commute to both Liverpool and Manchester.

The first phase of homes is anticipated to be completed and ready to rent from early 2018 and are being constructed by MCI Developments Limited in partnership with Warrington Borough Council and Homes England.

According to official figures, supply of new homes in Warrington is not meeting demand, with a predicted shortfall of 157 homes per year until 2029, demonstrating the desperate need for new homes in the area.

Nuvu Living is designed to fit around today’s busy lifestyles with customers able to benefit from additional services, such as ironing, gardening, dog walking and dry-cleaning collection.

John Cogbill, Chief Operating Officer at Your Housing Group said: “Demand for homes in Warrington is on the rise so we are delighted to be providing these high quality new homes in such a prime spot in Birchwood.

“At Nuvu Living we embrace the principle that renting a home is a lifestyle choice and we’ve spotted the opportunity to offer great family homes with long term rentals to enable people to lay down roots in an area without the uncertainty of short term tenancies. Residents will even have access to our handyman and have the option to add on additional services.

“We’re delighted that work has begun and we look forward to seeing our first residents move in next year.”
